Research Abstract
My research locates the centrality of elite Haitians in Global Blackness Project aimed at affecting Black Liberation, ending colonial subjugation, and undermining white supremacy. I am working on a book monograph, Exporting the Revolution: Haitians in the Age of Global Blackness, 1885-1944, that locates the contributions of elite Haitians in the various discussions and programs that sought to unite people of African descent in affecting Black liberation, globally. Departing from the position that the Haitian Revolution was a diasporic making event, I argue that the descendants of the Haitians who over threw slavery and realized the first independent Black Republic in 1804 sought to expand the reach of their successes across the Black world. I locate their efforts over sixty years, three continents, and across the various cleaves of diaspora in their activism. Moreover, I maintain that they inserted Haitian socio-cultural-political currents into the various conversations and association they participated in; thereby characterizing Port-au-Prince, the Haitian capital, as a site of Black cosmopolitanism.
