Short Biography
Dr. Yu-Chien (Alice) Chien is Assoc. Project Scientist at the University of California, Irvine. She served in realtime remote operations on earth for E-FIELD Flames (Electric Field Effects on Laminar Diffusion Flames) of ACME (Advanced Combustion via Microgravity Experiments) and led experiment operations on the ISS in 2018, together with the NASA Glenn Research Center OPS team.

She received her M.S. in Aeronautics and Astronautics from NCKU (National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan), 2007, and her Ph.D. in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, 2014, from UCI (University of California, Irvine). She has worked as a project scientist since 2015. Her first combustion science experience/involvement was in 2004 for an aerospace engineering senior project using fire simulator. She continued the combustion research in optic diagnostics and electrical aspects of flames through her graduate studies.

Currently, Chien is the advisor for M.S/Ph.D research and undergraduate projects. She conducts journal club, and laboratory hands-on trainings. She also serves as the Director of LFA (Lasers, Flames & Aerosols Research Group) and the Keck Foundation DOPSL (Deep Ocean Power Science Laboratory).
In addition, she also focuses on DEI (Diversity, Equality and Inclusion) and serves as the mentor/guest speaker for various activities from the minority programs on campus.

Research Interests: Microgravity Electric Field Flames, Methane Hydrate Combustion and Emission, CO2 Sequestration, Aerosols and Spray Imaging using Holography Reconstruction Techniques
