Short Biography
Dr. Alan R. Schenk is a Board-Certified Rheumatologist who has joined the UCI faculty as clinical professor of medicine after 36 years in private practice.

Dr. Schenk was born and raised in New York and received his undergraduate and medical school training at the State University of New York at Buffalo. After his Internal Medicine Residency in Miami, he completed his Rheumatology fellowship at the University of California/Irvine.

Dr. Schenk was Director of Continuing Medical Education at Saddleback Memorial Medical Center, Laguna Hills for 20 years, and remains a committee member. He was founding director of the Saddleback Osteoporosis Clinic. He is certified in the interpretation of bone density studies (DXA) by the International Society for Clinical Densitometry. He incorporated diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound and ultrasound-guided injection techniques into his practice in 2006, a first among Orange County rheumatologists. Dr. Schenk was one of 500 rheumatologists nationwide who were named Top Doctor by U.S. News and World Report in 2012. He was named a Physician of Excellence by Orange County Medical Association and Orange Coast Magazine for 2013-2017, 2022 and 2023.

Dr. Schenk resides in south Orange County. He is a semi-professional jazz guitarist and mandolinist who has performed at the Laguna Beach Art Festivals among other venues. He is currently studying piano.
