Short Biography
Dr. Danielle Perret Karimi is a physiatrist (physician who specializes in physical medicine and rehabilitation) and a pain specialist. She has been on UCI faculty since 2008. Her past experiences include a myriad of leadership positions in academic medicine. These include Program Director of both PM&R and Pain/Anesthesiology; the latter fellowship directorship totaling nearly 10 years. She also has had experience as Assistant Dean, Resident Affairs/Wellness and Quality and Safety; and Associate Dean, Graduate Medical Education. She has experience in faculty development, curricular development, strategic development, accreditation/regulatory affairs, quality/safety, and in clinical informatics where she currently serves as Informaticist Lead in ambulatory medicine for UC Irvine. Dr. Perret Karimi is double-boarded in PM&R and in Pain Medicine. Her clinical interests include spine pain, nerve pain, degenerative joint disease, musculoskeletal pain, a functional approach to pain medicine, and pelvic pain. Dr. Perret is active nationally in the field of PM&R, serving on the Board of Trustees of the Association of Academic Physiatrists (AAP) and as a national PM&R representative to the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC); she enjoys public speaking, public policy and advocacy work on behalf of academic physiatry (PM&R), academic medicine and persons with chronic pain and chronic disability.
