Short Biography
After graduating medical school from UC San Diego, Dr. Sosa-Johnson completed her residency in Internal Medicine at the Olive View/UCLA San Fernando Internal Medicine Residency program in 1993 and was Chief resident from 1993-1994. She was in private practice in the San Fernando Valley from 1995-1999. In 1999, she joined the internal medicine faculty at the University of California, Irvine.
Since joining the medical faculty of UC Irvine Health in 1999, her role as an Internal Medicine physician has been productive and dynamic. She has been a primary care provider in the ambulatory clinic, an attending physician and mentor for the Internal Medicine residents, a Clinical Foundations Faculty Mentor and preceptor for medical students, a volunteer faculty attending with the UCI School of Medicine student run free clinic and as Assistant Dean of Diversity and Community Engagement for the School of Medicine. Since 2020, she has been the Faculty Director for the 4th year medical student elective, “The Art of Doctoring”.
She has had the distinct honor to have received several awards and honors. The most meaningful to her are those she received for her teaching activities, the Gold Humanism award with subsequent induction into the national Gold Humanism Society and the faculty nomination by the medical students for the AAMC Compassion in Medicine Award.
As a Clinical Professor of Medicine, she continues to strive to be an effective physician supporting UC Irvine Health’s mission to provide excellent health care to all our diverse patient populations as well as continues to be a supportive mentor for both our Internal Medicine residents and medical students.
