Professor Sorooshian is the Past-President of AGU’s Hydrology Section; former editor of AGU’s Water Resources Research; Emeritus Member, NOAA Science Advisory Board; and Past Member, AMS Council. He has provided Expert Witness Testimonies to both U.S. Senate and House Committees and served on numerous advisory committees, including those of NRC, NASA, NOAA, NSF, EPA, and UNESCO.

Professor Sorooshian has served as the Present and Past Member and Chair of over 30 other advisory and review committees and boards for NASA, NOAA, DOE, EPA, NSF, National Labs, UNESCO, WMO, and professional societies. National Research Council (NRC) service over the past 15 years includes member of 7 NRC committees and Chair of GEWEX Panel.

Professor Sorooshian has been an invited and keynote speaker for professional, academic, national and international agencies at 180+ events. He has been an organizer, host, chair/co-chair, session convener /co-convener, panelist for 35+ conferences, seminars and workshops.
Research Abstract
Dr. Sorooshian's research focuses on surface hydrology, primarily in the area of rainfall-runoff modeling. He has devoted much of his effort to model identification and calibration issues and has developed special estimation criteria to account for the uncertainties of calibration data. Other research interests include the application of remote sensing data for characterization of hydrologic parameters and fluxes and the implication of climate variability and change in water resources. He also consults on problems related to surface hydrology and flood forecasting.

In 2007, the UNESCO Great Man-made River Prize was awarded to his research group at the Center for Hydrometorology & Remote Sensing (CHRS) and co-recipient U of AZ center SAHRA (Sustainability of semi-Arid Hydrologic and Riparian Areas. Professor Sorooshian was the founding Director of both research centers.
