Standardization of family pedigree symbols.
Research Abstract
Professor Steinhaus French's research involves developing universal standards for human pedigree nomenclature. Through her research she has documented the need for the development of standardized pedigree symbols. She has developed recommendations for standardized family pedigree nomenclature. These symbols have been incorporated into graduate, medical and nursing student curriculum, board examinations, medical publications and computer software programs. She is currently involved in exploring the practical as well as ethical issues of family pedigree drawing, pedigree research and publication for use in medical, nursing and genetics training programs.
