Research Abstract
General Research Interests:

My research has focused on three major areas in cardiovascular epidemiology and prevention:

1) Epidemiology and prognosis of metabolic syndrome

2) Coronary and aortic calcium evaluated by computed tomography and other subclinical measures of atherosclerosis and their epidemiology (including relation to metabolic syndrome) and prognosis

3) Clinical trials aimed at cardiovascular risk factor modification and progression/regression of atherosclerosis

4) Large-scale population-based longitudinal and intervention studies of cardiovascular risk factors in minority youth, women, and older adults: This involves collaborative research with the Coronary Artery Risk Development in Young Adults (CARDIA), Framingham Heart Studies, Multiethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA), Epidemiology of Diabetes Interventions and Complicaitons (EDIC), and other population studies.
