Research Abstract
Basic and clinical research investigations into the understanding of hyperproliferative skin diseases, such as psoriasis, ichthyosis, and skin cancer. Studies include the kinetics of cellular proliferation in these diseases, biochemical aspects of the DNA synthesis pathways and the mechanism of action of chemotherapeutic drugs to provide beneficial or therapeutic effects in these diseases. These investigations involve clinical pharmacology of experimental and older drugs as they are used therapeutically, e.g. the use of methotrexate for psoriasis. Further directions of dermatopharmacologic research include the topical use of chemotherapy for psoriasis and the use of photodynamic agents for psoriasis and other skin diseases.

Topical and systemic drug development for skin diseases in collaboration with pharmaceutical companies. Protocol design for dermatologic disease therapies, investigator INDs prepared, Phase I-III participation, consultation, or administration. Participation in past with over 20 major pharmaceutical companies in basic and clinical dermatopharmacology research.
