Research Abstract:
|
Dr. Shapiro’s work focuses on developing a unifying theory of human control and self control as they relate to psychophathology (depression, anxiety), physcial health (breast cancer, cardiovascular risk), and positive psychological wellbeing. Research includes development of a multi-factorial assessment inventory to determine individual control profiles; matching specific self-control techniques to those profiles; and examining the human potential to self-manage thoughts, feelings and behaviors. Dr. Shapiro is also exploring neurobiological correlates of control and how individuals at high genetic risk for disease (breast, colo-rectal cancer) maintain a sense of control.
