Research Abstract:
|
Research interests include: * Environmental epidemiology (emphasis on children’s environmental health) * Developmental toxicity associated with exposures to heavy metals and pesticides * Environmental factors associated with asthma etiology * Occupational epidemiology (emphasis on role of work organization, psychosocial factors and stress in the etiology of both cardiovascular disease (CVD) and immune function)
As Director of the Center for Occupational and Environmental Health (COEH), a University-wide multi-disciplinary teaching and research effort, our faculty strives to improve occupational and environmental health for the citizens in the geographical region we serve. COEH accomplishes this mission by enhancing awareness of occupational and environmental hazards via research and education in order to prevent future injury and disease. COEH provides outreach services (derived from the latest research of our expert faculty) to government agencies, industry, schools, health professionals, and the public.
The COEH is based in UC Irvine's School of Medicine and is a interdisciplinary program involving faculty from various departments and schools throughout the university. The organization of COEH encourages and facilitates collaborative research in all scientific areas related to occupational and environmental health.
