Abstract:
Since her first book, a study of the cultural context of the Ancrene Wisse, a thirteenth century religious guide for female recluses, Linda Georgianna has written essays on topics ranging from Beowulf to Chaucer. She is currently completing a book on Chaucer and religion and beginning work on the first volume of the new Oxford Literary History of England. When Oxford Press asked that the manuscript be delivered by the turn of the millennium, Georgianna, a medievalist to the bone, replied, "Which millennium?" She was recently a fellow at the Rockefeller Foundation Study Center in Bellagio, Italy and at Robinson College, Cambridge University. Teaching interests (in addition to Chaucer) include medieval narrative, especially historiography and romance, literature and religion, Victorian medievalism.
