Short Biography

Dr. Yu-Chien (Alice) Chien is the Director of Lasers, Flames & Aerosols Research Group (LFA) and the W.M. Keck Foundation Deep Ocean Power Science Laboratory (DOPSL) as a project scientist in MAE at the University of California, Irvine. She served in the realtime international space station (ISS) remote operations on earth for E-FIELD Flames experiment for 6 months, with 250 testpoints conducted, in 2018 with the NASA GRC team.

Chien is the advisor for M.S/Ph.D research and undergraduate projects. She conducts journal club, and laboratory hands-on trainings.

Throughout her aerospace/aeronautics and astronautics studies, she had project experience for UAV, fire simulator, house natural gas water heater, Schmidt–Cassegrain diagnostics, Mid-IR QCL diagnostics, electrical aspects of flame studies with Schlieren/PLIF diagnostics. She then worked as an assistant project scientist since 2015 with various project operation/management, collaboration and supervision until today (as a full project scientist).

In addition, she also focuses on DEI (Diversity, Equality and Inclusion) and serves as the mentor/guest speaker from the minority programs on campus.
