Short Biography
While I was an anesthesiology resident at Georgetown University, I was first introduced to cannabis and cannabinoid clinical research under the mentorship of Dr. Julia Finkel at Children’s National Medical Center. There, I learned valuable skills and tools to conduct clinical research as we were developing new methods to identify cannabis intoxication and nociception. From there I continued further specialized training in pain medicine as a fellow physician at the University of California, Irvine (2017-2018). Shortly thereafter I joined the faculty at UCI as an Assistant Clinical X Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Care, Division of Pain Medicine with my primary focus of investigating cannabis in the clinical setting evaluating for efficacy, side effects and it potential therapies to help alleviate the opioid burden in terms of pain and addiction in my patient population. Further research in cannabis has also been directed towards the effect we see in patients undergoing general anesthesia. Under the guidance and mentorship of Daniele Piomelli, PhD an expert in the field of the endocannabinoids and the endocannabinoid system, I hope to establish my career in the clinical field by investigating and providing clinical evidence to expand our understanding of the effect cannabis has on the endocannabinoid system in the treatment of acute and chronic pain conditions and in the perioperative period.
