Research Abstract |
My area of research interest is health care systems and how the structure and processes of a health care system affects patient safety and clinical and organizational outcomes. Within this area of research, I have investigated quality improvement techniques, patient safety issues, effective health care delivery models, and cost-effectiveness of care. My doctoral study focused on health care systems’ management and specifically focusing on cost-effectiveness analysis on venous thromboembolism (VTE) diagnosis and clinical outcomes research. I had been involved on an interdisciplinary research project supported by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (Patient Safety Grant) focusing on the implementation and evaluation of a system-supported VTE Safety Toolkit. The VTE Safety Toolkit is comprised of diagnostic, preventative, and treatment algorithms for patients at risk for or diagnosed with VTE. The VTE Safety Toolkit has been disseminated nationally for the purpose of improving the quality and safety of care. In addition to my interest in the development of evidence-based clinical guidelines and implementation into daily clinical practice, I also have a special interest in simulation education in nursing and health sciences. Recently I have been involved in developing nursing simulation database and simulation outcomes measurement tools. My efforts on this area will be ongoing. |
