Research Abstract |
I am interested in the role of culture and positive emotions in shaping close relationship experience and health outcomes. My research focuses on three questions: 1) What factors promote high quality relationships? 2) What role do the positive emotions play in forming and maintaining high quality relationships? 3) How do relationship and positive emotion processes come together to influence health outcomes in Latina/o populations? Current projects are investigating beliefs about what it means to be a good family member; the role of positive emotions in forming and maintaining relationships; the socio-cultural contexts in which familialism and simpatia are associated with positive and negative relationship experience and overall health; responses to social support seeking and giving; and whether blood pressure is one proximal mechanism through which culture based beliefs influence Latina pregnancy outcomes. |
