Abstract
Dr. Zell’s research focus is cancer prevention of aerodigestive and gastrointestinal malignancies (e.g. lung, colon, pancreas), including prevention of secondary malignancies in patients with a history of established cancer. In particular, he is interested in cancer prevention through targeted manipulation of two key biologic pathways involved in tumorigenesis: polyamine synthesis and EGFR-signaling. Dr. Zell’s research involves analytic and genetic epidemiologic methods to identify high-risk populations for cancer development, or cancer recurrence. Subsequently, clinical trials are developed to test novel targeted approaches to cancer prevention among these high-risk groups. Currently he serves as principle investigator or co-investigator for several early phase secondary and tertiary cancer prevention clinical trials involving polyamine inhibition or EGFR inhibition.
