Research Abstract
Dr. Thomas J. Garite is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of California, Irvine and Director of the Fellowship program in Maternal-Fetal medicine. He earned his medical degree at UCI where he also completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He continued his medical training at the same institution where he completed a Fellowship program in Maternal-Fetal Medicine.

Dr. Garite is past president of the Society of Perinatal Obstetricians, and a member of the Society of Gynecologic Investigation, the American Gynecologic and Obstetric Society and numerous other distinguished societies. In addition, he is Associate Editor of the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Dr. Garite's research interests have focused on clinical problems in obstetrics, particularly intrapartum fetal monitoring and in premature delivery associated with premature rupture of membranes and the infectious etiology of prematurity. He has published over 120 articles and chapters and 3 books. He has been principal author on four large prospective randomized clinical trials and secondary authors on two others.
