Research Abstract
My research interests focus on public health aspects of waters and wastewaters. My laboratory has published a number of papers on microorganisms of public health importance as well as the development of novel techniques to detect them in different environmental media. My primary focus over the last several years has been concerned with bacteriological quality of drinking and environmental water. Understanding how information on the genetic make-up of organisms can be used to enhance degradation of organic compounds, transformation of inorganic compounds or to improve efficiencies in wastewater teatment is being investigated currently as well as the detection of emerging pathogens associated with water and food.
