Research Abstract |
The aerodynamics of particle deposition in the developing lung and in the adult lung is one major focus of the research program; another is assessment of lung defense mechanisms using aerosol inhalation challenges. Quantitative morphometry by hand and video image analysis is being used to study the mechanism of interference with organogenesis and possible long-term consequences for lung disease due to toxic inhalation exposure. Additional studies are evaluating the tolerance of animals to air pollution mixtures as a mechanism that may protect humans against ambient pollutants, and the doses related to environmental tobacco smoke and bioterror agents. | |
