Research Abstract
Prof. Valdevit works in the general area of mechanics of materials, developing analytical, numerical and experimental techniques across multiple length scales. He has worked on the optimal design of thermo-structural sandwich panels with architected cores, with a primary emphasis on hypersonic vehicles applications. Since moving to UCI, his primary research goals have been the optimal design, modeling, fabrication and experimental characterization of hierarchical architected materials with superior combination of properties. His group has recently developed novel micro-mechanical test frames and numerical algorithms to enable this overarching goal.
