Research Abstract
Resident Scholar at the Thesaurus Linguae Graecae, with primary research focus upon establishing a definitive canon of Classical Greek and later Greek authors and their extant literary works. Thus far, some 3,300 authors and more than 10,000 discrete literary works are represented in the canon, together with detailed bibliographies, information about chronology, geographic origins, literary epithets, and generic classifications. The canon exists in electronic form and is updated regularly. It has been published in three editions, with the third edition available to scholars also as a research tool on the TLG's CD ROM (which provides corrected texts from the TLG data bank, currently housing approximately 72,500,000 words or more than 98 per cent of the Greek literary corpus).

Comments: Although I took early retirement in 1994, I held a recall appointment in the Department of Classics until June 1998. I therefore continued to enjoy teaching both graduate and undergraduate students, but at the reduced rate of three courses per year. Counting my recall appointment, I spent 31 rewarding years as a member of UCI's faculty in Classics. In appreciation, my husband (Theodore Brunner) and I have established two annual awards to recognize distinguished academic performance; these are the Luci Berkowitz Undergraduate Prize in Classics and the Theodore Brunner and Luci Berkowitz Graduate Prize in Classics.
